A Simple Model of Memes, part two

All bona fide revealed religions of the world are based on intuitive knowledge. Each has an exoteric or outer particularity and an esoteric or inner core. The exoteric aspect is the public image and includes moral precepts and a body of doctrines, dogmas, dissertations, rules, and customs to guide the general populace of its followers.
The esoteric aspect includes methods that focus on actual communion of the soul with God. The exoteric aspect is for the many, the esoteric is for the ardent few. It is the esoteric aspect of religion that leads to intuition, the first-hand knowledge of reality.

    If our leaders remembered only a little of their gnosis
    They would walk the great path of Tao in accordance with the will of the Father and dread putting their egos first.

    The path of Heaven’s truth and righteousness is straightforward and smooth
    Yet people become sidetracked by worldly desires and cling to their treasured memes.

    Our government buildings are exceedingly splendid
    While the farmers’ fields lie fallow and choked with weeds—
    The silos and storehouses all but empty.

    People wear designer clothes and ornate jewelry
    And carry gleaming phones at their belts as if they were sharpened blades;
    They gorge themselves on rich food and drinks
    And accumulate an abundance of material possessions.

    Surely, this is nothing but larcenous pride at others’ expense.
    It is the opposite of the Father’s Will. Truly!

    Mining Gnosis Through the Tao Te Ching–verse 40

    You may wonder why I am talking about the Tao Te Ching here in this Gnostic venue. The answer is that the Tao Te Ching helped me mine my own gnosis years prior to discovering the books of the Nag Hammadi, proving that we can all mine gnosis without having access to so-called Gnostic texts. As we seek out the Truth in religions and sacred writings, it is our own gnosis that draws the understanding out of these sources. Steeping oneself in religion without using discernment to mine the gnosis therein does us no good. Merely being “religious” does nothing to advance your wisdom or understanding of the world and God if you do not mine the gnosis to be found there. But if we read with a gnostic heart and mind, then the gnosis is there to be found. When you find a verse or precept that clicks with you—that is your gnosis being mined.
